Cities, towns and metro regions across the United States and around the globe are engaging in climate action planning. In recent years, the focus of planning has shifted among mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability goals. Best practices now integrate equity. Communities are recognizing that historically marginalized communities often experience the worst impacts from climate change impacts while also not sharing in the benefits from transitioning to a low-carbon economy. LGEAN's Climate Equity Initiative is a hub of resources and programming for local governments to address the needs and priorities of their most vulnerable populations, including cross-cutting considerations, such as stakeholder engagement, public health, maladaptation and just transition. 2022-08-01Managing Pharmaceutical Waste A 10-Step Blueprint for Healthcare Facilities (2022 Update)
The document Managing Pharmaceutical Waste A 10-Step Blueprint for Healthcare Facilities is being revised by HERC to cover the most recent federal and state regulations for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals. Most notably, on February 22, 2019, EPA published Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals and Amendment to the P075 Listing for Nicotine. The updated document will completed by September 2022 and will be available on the Healthcare Environmental Resource Center. Although the 2008 document is not current with regard to federal regulation of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals, it does contain valuable non-regulatory waste management information that remains valid today. 2022-06-01EPA Selects New National Compliance Initiatives
The EPA focuses its enforcement and compliance resources on the most serious environmental violations by developing and implementing national program priorities called National Compliance Initiatives (NCIs). The overarching goal is to increase compliance in the six NCIs for the FY 2020-2023 cycle. EPA/OECA will develop implementation frameworks for each NCI that will include approaches using our full range of compliance assurance tools, including compliance assistance, self-audits, and informal and formal enforcement actions to achieve the goals of each NCI.
